Support our university students in Gaza

Since April 2024, we have been working closely with students from Gaza's universities, trying to offer support them as Gaza's academic infrastructure has been destroyed. We began by providing teaching materials, research mentorship and English language training. Quickly we realised the students possess an indomitable urge to write and to bear witness. As we listened to their words, we were deeply moved by their beauty and power, ever more convinced of the need to disseminate them to the outside world. Here, we present a selection of their creative works - pieces that capture their pain, hopes, and reflections.

We have been teaching and mentoring these students for some time now, sharing in their ambitions, achievements, and dreams. They are not just names on a register, they are talented, determined young people whose resilience has inspired us time and again. Many had set their sights on building a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities through education.

That future is now hanging by a thread. Most of these students have been forcibly displaced from the north to the south of Gaza, losing not only their homes but also their childhood memories, belongings, and everything they once knew. Families have been torn apart- many students have lost fathers or brothers who were their primary providers, leaving them with no financial support in an already desperate situation.

The reality is even harsher for many of them because over 80% of our students are women. In the current conditions in Gaza, it is extremely difficult, often impossible, for women to seek employment or secure income. Several of them are also mothers, some caring for children as young as four or five, trying to keep them safe and fed while living in tents or overcrowded temporary shelters.

Prices of even the most basic necessities- tents, warm clothing, food- have skyrocketed. Without urgent support, these students and their families face the ongoing risk of further loss of life, worsening poverty, and the erosion of their dignity and hope.

This is why we are fundraising. We want to stand by our students in this unimaginable time by sending money directly into Gaza to help them meet their most urgent needs- from food, shelter, and winter clothing to essential care for their children. We will also contribute towards their tuition fees. Every contribution you make goes directly to them, offering not just immediate relief but also a lifeline that helps them hold on to their education and their dreams.
